Is it Dock Time?

A quick look into what this piece represents.

This is just one of many boat paintings I'm planning on for this summer. Like the previous blog posts, this is the first pass made for this piece. There will be a few more layers that will better cement the form of the vessels and palms in the background.

The reference photo used was taken at Pine Island. This was somewhat near the pelicans, just a little further down the canal. It was taken around 3:30-4 pm.

One of the best times of day in the boater's world is late afternoon. The sun drifts over to the west and the light refracts in different directions from the water's reflection. The light is warm and the shadows are softened by the bouncing light throughout the space. They won't darken in contrast until the sun sinks further down the skyline.

This is a familiar glow that we see on our way back to dock after a long summer's day on the water. It speaks of time never wasted, inviting relaxation.
